Ten on Tuesday—Giving Thanks

Today’s Questions are all about Thanksgiving Traditions.
1.       What is your favorite Thanksgiving Day tradition (besides eating)?
Watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.  It's been a tradition for me as long as I have been able to watch tv.  My favorite part used to be the giant balloons.  As I get older, I like to see the marching bands perform.

2.      What is your favorite menu item at Thanksgiving?
It has always been the sweet  potatoes.  Why don't we make them more than once a year?  It's my favorite part and usually the item that receives a big chuck of real estate on my plate!

3.      Are any of your family’s recipes traditions from your grandparents?
Almost all of them.  When my grandparents passed on, we (my sibs and me) made asked our mom incorporate favorites from both sides, as well as her own.  It's a who's who of family treats!  My favorite from my dad's mom is the pineapple casserole.  My mom's mom always made the best sweet potato casserole.

4.      What is your favorite activity on Thanksgiving?
Last year, my sibs and cousins started a family Turkey Bowl and Pot Luck the Saturday after Thanksgiving.  We've just sent out the invites for the 2nd Annual event.  We can't wait to play some football and see what we get with creative leftovers!  This is from last year.  My baby sister was the culinary master behind this yummy stadium!

5.      Do you attend a local parade?
I remember going to the parade as a kid.  It was the afternoon of Thanksgiving.  Now, it's at night or wait....last year it was the Sunday before Thanksgiving.  I liked it during the day.  We hung out with our cousins (we're a tight knit family, in case you can't tell) and watched the trucks, marching bands and silly little floats come down Main Street.  Yep...I live in that kind of town.  I love it!

6.      Cranberry Sauce or Cranberry Jelly?
I am a cranberry JELLY girl.  Love it on my turkey...later on my sandwiches.  Really there should be some kind of mayo with it premixed.  It would be divine!

7.      Sweet potato casserole…..with nuts or marshmallows?
With my sweet tooth?  Marshmallows...lots of them, too.

8.     What is your least favorite dish at Thanksgiving?  I mean, you don’t even put it on your plate!
My mom makes this thing called green pea salad.  I'm not sure why I don't like it.  Maybe this will be the year that all changes.  I mean, it's lettuce, green peas, onions and mayo with some sugary breadcrumbs on top.  What's not to like? I just never liked it and so the "thought" makes my stomach turn.

9.      Does your family take time to go around the table to say one thing they are thankful for?
Yes.  We've had lots to be Thankful for and my parents always want us to remember how lucky we are.  I love this tradition!!

10.  Let’s hear it for dessert….Do you prefer Pecan Pie or Pumpkin Pie?
At our house.....it's, "Can I have a thin slice of each?"  Mom will probably make a cake or something, too.  That's just how we ROLL down south!
Enjoy your Thanksgiving, friends!  I’ll be taking next week off from the blog to spend time with my family and friends.
Happy Tuesday, y'all!
xoxo,
Laurie

I love this list! The Macy's parade is a tradition of ours too! Also in reaction to #9--a few years ago, we were going around the table to share what we're thankful for and my mom suggested we make it different than what we traditionally say. I went first and said "the ocean" because I am so thankful for the world around me and the influence the ocean/boating/etc has had on my life! Everyone laughed at me and then proceeded to share the traditional "I am thankful for my family" and such, haha!
