Weekend Wrap Up: The Wyndham Championship

Time once again for my weekly post.  This week I was on the go.  I think I am still exhausted from my day of volunteering at the Wyndham Championship. It was still the highlight of my week.

On Wednesday, my alarm went off two hours earlier than normal (4:40 am).  I'm not sure I've seen that hour since college.  I stumbled out of bed and began my frantic routine of showering and dressing for the tournament.  All of the volunteers had been instructed to be there 45 minutes before their shift.  Seriously?  That would be me out on the golf course at 5:15. It's still dark at 5:15.  I left my house a little after 5.  I knew it would take me 20 minutes to get out to Sedgefield.  Another 10 minutes to locate the volunteer parking lot in the dark.

I finally made it to the shuttle.  Rode over to the course and realized my volunteer badge was still in the car.  Back to the lot!  Once this was recovered, things went smoothly from there.  However dark the walk from the road to the course was.  It was crazy.  I couldn't believe how dark it was on those roads, but I finally made it to the volunteer tent.

After check in, I found my spot next to one of the entrances to the practice green.  Things were slow for a few hours. The first to tee of in the 7 am hour were out to practice.  It was the New Breed ProAm.  Lots of local stars (like Chris Paul and Roy Williams) were playing, as well as some well-known players like John Daly and Webb Simpson.  I liked my place because I got to see all the golfers on the putting green  See how the interacted with the fans and who was fun and who was too serious.
Do you know how you can tell the Pros from the Ams?
Pros are required to wear long pants.  Most of the Ams wore shorts.

Davis Love III just right of center in the orange
The excitement around hometown favorite Webb Simpson kept me from getting a shot of him.  He was the first of the tee times for the afternoon groups.  The practice green was buzzing while he was out there.

By mid afternoon, I was sleepy.  My shift was from 6 am to 7 pm.  I was so glad when we were dismissed at 6:10.  I had a great time and would sign up again in a heart beat.  I feel lucky that I was given the opportunity.  Did you know that all PGA tournaments are done for charity?  I didn't and that made it even more exciting for me.

The rest of the week was early to bed.  We had dinner with friends on Friday night and that turned into a late night.  Good thing we all have the same thought, though....we turn into pumpkins at midnight.  We had a lot of fun and were grateful to be included for dinner.  Lots of laughs and plenty of fun.

I hope you have had a fabulous weekend, too!
xoxo,
Laurie
