We've just returned from our weekend in Banner Elk for Sugar's First Annual Brew Fest. We went with my brother and his girlfriend. It was great because it wasn't hot and didn't rain. It was overcast most of the day. The event was held at Sugar Mountain Ski Resort near Banner Elk, NC. Lots of great microbrews and local vineyards and live music. Andrea and I were quick to make the rounds and making lots of friends along the way.
We had fun to walking around on the lower slope where we're used to snow in the winter. There was also a contest for the best beer. A panel of local judges selected a chocolate beer. It was more of a dessert drink. I didn't like it at all. I wonder how it will fair through the winter. The winning prize was a spot at the bar for the winter season at the ski lodge. My personal favorite was the Cream Ale from The Blind Squirrel Brewery. It's light and yummy. Second place in my book....Purple Haze. It's from New Orleans and has a raspberry flavor. It's really good, too. Love finding new beers, too.

During the rest of the time,we read, watched the Olympics, and cooked. It was a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to next year's event.
This week, our tennis team plays in the local playoffs for the 7.0 Combo Doubles. If we win, we go to Durham, NC.

Love Banner Elk and Sugar Mountain. Also, Purple Haze has been around since I was in college at LSU and it's still one of my favorites!
